INFO

Morganstine is an artist name used by Brighton-based musician Christine Morgan.

Brought up in the musical valleys of South Wales, Christine – like many others at the time – trained as a pianist, eventually leaving home to study music in Brighton. During her years as a music student Christine swapped her piano for a harpsichord, studying under organist and harpsichordist Paul Simmonds. During this time she developed a special interest in early music.

Later, Christine branched out into writing and performing other genres of music, playing electronic keyboards both live and in the studio. Then after meeting her now husband, the DJ Nick Hook, Christine became involved in dance music recordings and remixes, and is probably best known in this genre for her work using the artist name Playdoh.

After a break from music, Christine’s focus has returned to writing and producing, as well as managing her record label Obsistent Music. Her album Gervase and the Ball – recorded under the name Morganstine and the label’s debut release – is strongly influenced by renaissance polyphony, but using modern tonalities.

Christine also records using the artist name Moogk.

Obsistent Music is a new independent artist-led record label for contemporary/modern classical, electronic, ambient and experimental composers and performers.
